Mapping Ambiance is a research carried out by an international and multidisciplinary team, involving research laboratories working within the themes of multisensory perception and experiential simulation, namely Laboratorio di Simulazione Urbana “Fausto Curti” (DAStU, Politecnico di Milano, Milano – Italy) and CRENAU (UMR 1563 AAU CNRS/MCC/ECN Nantes – France), and the Department of Cultural Heritage and Environment (UniMi, Milano - Italy).

 

The aim of this research is to depict the complexity of the multiple nuances of the ambiance notion, considering its interdisciplinary and international dimension, by comparing the approaches of different fields dealing with themes and topics related to the ambiance notion. One of the goals of this research is to highlight commonalities among the disciplines, approaches, methods and techniques, in order to find bridges that can enable or favour a multidisciplinary collaboration on the topic.

The overall outcome of the research aims at sharing the results in the academic debate at the transnational level in order to extend the concept of Ambiance beyond the French linguistic environment and disciplinary bounds; in fact, the topics of perception, experience, genius loci are investigated at the international level without sharing a common ground; Mapping Ambiance could be a useful reference to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, through the implementation of the interactive platform with contributions of other scholars.

Ph.D. in Environmental Psychology, he studies the psycho-social meaning of places, promoting the interdisciplinary dialogue between urban sciences, design and psychological approach.

Associate Professor, Team CRENAU, Laboratory AAU, ENSA Nantes. His research interests concern the use of natural lighting during the architectural design, the modeling and visualization of urban data, and the analysis of the morphology of urban public spaces.

An associate professor in com-puter science at ECN and a member of CNRS JRU «Ambiences, Architecture and Urbanity» since 2006 where she studies Computer Vision and Image Analysis, GIS, Augmented Reality and the use of mobile tool for urban design.
